SIPRelay Call Options

Deaf individuals must be registered with mySorenson before they are able use SIPRelay. Please visit www.mysorenson.com to create an account. Once your account is created, you will receive a free local 10-digit number. You will also be able to make and receive SIPRelay calls.

There are two different methods to place a SIPRelay call-from either a mobile device or a PC. Follow the directions below to connect to a Sorenson CA.

Method 1.

SIPRelay Mobile for BlackBerry:

  1. Download SIPRelay Mobile for BlackBerry through your BlackBerry browser from www.siprelay.com/download/ or download the application to your PC and install it to your BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. Open the application on your BlackBerry smartphone* or connect through your BlackBerry contact list.
  3. Enter the number of the person you wish to call.
  4. The Chat screen will then appear. Type your message into the box at the bottom of the window and then press Enter to send your message.
  5. A Sorenson CA will answer the call to relay the conversation.

AIM on a PC or Compatible Mobile Device:

  1. Open AIM on your PC or compatible mobile device* and add “SIPRelay” to your buddy list.
  2. Send an IM to the ‘siprelay’ buddy with the area code and telephone number of the person you wish to call.
  3. A Sorenson CA will answer the call and relay the conversation.

*Mobile devices must be equipped with a wireless service plan that includes data capabilities. Mobile devices must have compatible AIM software installed to use SIPRelay with AIM. Additional charges from your wireless service provider may apply. See your provider for details.

Method 2.

Personal Computer (PC):

  1. To place a SIPRelay call using your PC, either send an IM with the number you wish to call to the ‘siprelay’ contact in your AIM buddy list or visit www.siprelay.com and click on the “Place a SIPRelay Call Now” button to access your AIM account from the SIPRelay Web site.
  2. Send an IM to the ‘siprelay’ buddy with the area code and telephone number of the person you wish to call.
  3. A Sorenson CA will answer the call and relay your conversation.

Place a CaptionCall® Voice Carry Over (VCO) Call:

For people with hearing loss who want to use their own voice and residual hearing but who would benefit from a captioning of the other party’s voice, CaptionCall Voice Carry Over (VCO) calls using AIM combine the best of both worlds.

  1. Open AIM on your PC or go to www.siprelay.com and click on the Place a SIPRelay Call Now button to access AIM from the SIPRelay Web site.
  2. Add the screen name ‘siprelay’ as a buddy if you have not already added it.
  3. Send an IM to the ‘siprelay’ buddy with VCO as the message.
  4. A Sorenson CA will answer the call and request your number and the number you are calling, then connect the calls and relay your conversation.
