Is SIPRelay different from other IP Relay services?
SIPRelay has some unique features that make it the best choice for IP Relay:
- No need for a high-speed Internet connection - a regular modem is all that you need.
- Time-saving service that eliminates the need to use GA or SK.
- Intuitive PC interface
- Deaf-centric commands
Were deaf individuals involved in creating SIPRelay?
Yes. Sorenson Communications has many deaf employees who contributed to the research and development of our IP Relay communication tool. One example of this is the intuitive use of GA or SK commands. With the feedback from deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, GA and SK are replaced with the "Enter" command at the user's discretion. Sorenson Communications involves the deaf and hard-of-hearing when we develop our products and services. If you are interesting in working for Sorenson Communications, please visit

Where are my IP Relay calls being taken?
SIPRelay calls are individually taken by a trained Communications Assistant (CA) at the SIPRelay Call Center.
Can I complete 900 number pay-per-calls through SIPRelay?
No. SIPRelay does not accept 900-number calls.
Can I complete Spanish calls through SIPRelay?
Yes. SIPRelay can process Spanish-to-Spanish relay calls; simply say "Espanol" when you reach a Communications Assistant (CA) to be transferred to a Spanish-speaking CA.
Can I place an international call?
No. SIPRelay does not accept international calls.
How do I get a SIPRelay local 10-digit number?

What is the difference between a 10-digit local number and a toll-free number?
While SIPRelay calls are always free for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, hearing callers may be charged long distance when dialing a local number. If you have hearing friends and relatives that live out of state, or out of your area code, you might want to also request a toll-free number. There are no long-distance charges when a hearing caller dials a toll-free number.
Why isn't a local number available in my area?
There are some places in the US and Puerto Rico where we cannot provide a local 10-digit number because of the way the local phone company distributes and manages numbers in your area. Sorenson can provide you with a local number from an area close to your actual address. We will contact you as soon as local number is available for you. In the mean time, we would be happy to provide you with a toll-free number.
